Many people have elaborated on the topic of the more excellent way that Paul outlines in 1 Corinthians 13. Most of them have done a far better job than I could, so I shall take the opposite route and seek to simplify.
Alone, each of these is a good thing. When added together, they are great. Yet without love, they are nothing.
Yes, if truth is not undergirded by love, it makes the possessor of that truth obnoxious and the truth repulsive.
Therefore, the bottom line is love.
Plain and simple.
