His Excellency

Excellence Series, part 1 of 7 (click here for the introduction and links to each post)

“Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!” ~Psalm 150:2 ESV

I begin with the premise that the measure of anything good is God Himself, therefore in a study of excellence I will go to Him first.

“Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.” ~Job 37:23 KJV

He is the incomprehensible ideal. Perfection personified. Excellence epitomized.

And completely beyond my reach.

“O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” ~Psalm 8:9 KJV

His Excellency spoke to the ancients by the prophets. He communicated with them from far away – fitting for the Ultimate Excellency.

But now?

Now He speaks to us by His Son! The heir of all things! The Creator of the world and the radiance of the very glory of God.

This Son is God incarnate. The incomprehensible ideal who became human and today sits at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Higher than the angels because His Name is the excellent Name inherited from the untouchable Almighty. {Hebrews 1:1-4}

The Unreachable reaching down to me.

“…This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.” ~from Isaiah 28:14-29 ESV
