Book Review~Stepping Heavenward

by Elizabeth Prentiss
published mid-1800s

This book is in journal format and the journalist is Katherine, who begins writing at the age of 16. She continues the journal until she is old and it tells the story of her journey to be more like Christ. She is quite the temperamental young lady, and must learn to control her emotions. She learns a lot through trials and temptations, but discovers God’s best for her in the end.

I related quite well to Katherine (I think she must have had red hair–her temper suggests it!) and really enjoyed the book. It’s very well written, and is, of course, historically accurate because it was written in the period. I recommend this book for young ladies 12 and up.
