It struck me today how much it means when someone says something to you. Not that I didn’t know it before… it just struck me again.
This week I have been encouraged and discouraged by peoples’ words. Someone can say something so flippantly and hurt so badly. Other times just a passing comment can brighten a whole day–or even a whole week. But these types of words are not what particularly touched me this week. No, it was the deliberate encouragement from a woman at church who said that she tries to tell people honestly what she sees God doing in them. And the person who says something just for negativity’s sake.
I pray that this contemplation on the power of words will help me to always think before I speak. It is so true that no one can tame the tongue, but I hope that I can learn to surrender it to the only One who can.
